This week students will receive an introduction to unit two, which is social media etiquette. Students will determine the pros and cons of social media/networking. Furthermore, students will analyze scenarios for cyberbullying where they will cite textual evidence to show how the scenario relates to cyberbullying.
They will then create short scenarios, which demonstrates cyberbullying. Students will also discuss, role-play, and offer solutions to an online cyberbullying dilemmas. Lastly, students will receive guidance lessons from the school counselors this week.
Students will discuss and discover their personal brand this week. They will view and analyze the brand of their peers and various celebrities. Students will gain an understanding of how personal branding is the powerful, clear, positive idea that comes to mind whenever others think of them. They will determine what they stand for—the values, abilities, and actions that others associate with them. In order to determine and build a brand, students will create a personal logo that will represent their brand.
This week we will wrap-up unit one. Students will complete the unit one assessment Friday, February 10th . They will demonstrate their understanding of the various academies of PHS, UNL vocabulary/concepts, and their passion. Students will be given an opportunity to review in class.
Last week, students completed a career questionnaire. Students were able to use research skills to discover career options. This week students will be introduced to the academies of PHS. In an effort to expose students to the academies, students will research various career fields under each academy. Students will also engage in debates about influential leaders in various career fields.
Students will research a career by completing a career questionnaire this week. Students will be interviewing and interacting with their peers to analyze various passions/sparks. These activities will allow students to recognize their predominant interests and preferences. In addition to the career exploration, students will be introduced to the academies of PHS. Students will research various career fields under each academy. Furthermore, students will have a quiz Friday, January 27th over the UNL Pledge.
Students will finalize their body maps this week. Students will be given a Sparks Assessment. They will be given the opportunity to explore their passion. Students will complete a mini passion project. Students will also analyze how others made their passion their profession. Students will examine Gabby Douglas and the obstacles she faced to pursue her passion.
Students will continue to engage in icebreakers and teambuilding activities. These activities will allow students to become familiar with high school and learning how to collaborate as a team. Students will also complete a chalk talk team activity and pretest, which will give students a preview of topics/concepts that will be covered this semester.
This week, students will be given the opportunity to work on their blogs/WordPress, which counts 20% of their grade. The blog is an online portfolio of the units/topics covered throughout the semester. Students can post projects or work that they have completed throughout the semester, or they can create new artifacts for each section. At the end of each unit/module, students were allowed the time draft and upload artifacts for each unit. However, the students will be provided time during class this week to finalize their online portfolio. All blogs are due Friday, December 16th. The directions for the blog are attached below.Students will also present their Usher's New Look projects Tuesday, December 13th. Students will present a current issue. They will list five causes and five effects of the issue. As a group, students will create solutions to the issue. Students will present the issue in the form of a skit, PSA, or PowerPoint.
