At the beginning of the week, students analyzed the elements of a story. Students were also able to create a plot, which linked to the beginning and end of a story. Furthermore, students learned that part of reading comprehension involves using the other words in a sentence or passage to understand an unknown word. An author often includes hints, or clues, to help the reader expand vocabulary and grasp the meaning of the passage. Students engaged in activities where they used context clues to determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word. Lastly, they discovered knowing the meanings of prefixes can also help you determine the meaning of unknown words.
